Settling in at Papdale Nursery

Last week we welcomed our new children and families to Papdale. We were excited to see everyone again after meeting you during our garden visits.

We have all been exploring and becoming familiar with the new setting. We are getting used to nursery routines - snack, lunch, group times, play and tidying up - and LOTS of hand washing. We have been really impressed at how good the children are at washing hands, they are obviously doing it lots at home.
We have started going for walks in areas surrounding the school. We start with smaller distances and build up to our 'Daily mile'.

We have enjoyed seeing the builders working on the new Nursery while on our walks and can't wait to see the finished project.

We spend time outdoors most days in all weathers. We enjoy energetic play outdoors, and have been  really curious about the nature we have seen in our surroundings.

Can you spot the owl in the tree?

Indoor Play
Children have been playing in all areas in the Nursery. We have noticed lots of turn taking, sharing resources, and working together.

Taking outdoors inside to extend learning

Keys can take you wherever your imagination wants to go

Encouraging creativity and imagination in the nursery- we provide materials which can be used in many different ways in all areas. These are called 'open-ended' items because they don't just have one use. Our 'loose parts' can be anything from buttons, bits of wood, shells, lolly sticks, stones and lots more odds and ends. It's amazing what can be cooked in the house corner with loose parts, and we see some beautiful artwork. We also have loose parts for outdoor play.

As you can see from the photos the children have been really busy discovering what is in the new setting. Hopefully this gives you a small snapshot of what we have been up to.
We try to include as many children as possible on the blog each week but unfortunately we can't catch everyone on every blog due to the number of children we have.

Planning wall

Every week we use things we observe during children's play to help us plan new experiences. This helps us to ensure we are following children's interests and learning.

* Reminders*

We try to get outside in all weathers so would like to ask that all children have a pair of welly boots with names on them to keep at Nursery. Now that the weather isn't quite so nice at times could children please wear/bring a warm coat to school each day.

For safety and social distancing reasons could we also please ask parents/carers to use their allocated gate for dropping off and picking up children. A staff member will open the gates at pick up time.

As well as our Blog we have two Facebook pages :
' Papdale Early Learning and Childcare'
and a closed page 'Papdale Nursery 2020-21'

We are sending Newsletters by email which give you a sample of some of what has been happening during you child's time in Nursery.

Best wishes,

The Nursery Team
