Lunchtime
When children are staying all day we try to get outside just after lunch to experience the different areas around the school. But being Orkney it's not always weather to get outside. This week we had stories and games.

Duck , Duck, Duck, Goose

'Hide A Book'
The children may have mentioned to you already that we have been looking out for books on our walks. 'Hide A Book' started South and came to Orkney over the Summer. Books are hidden around town for children to find. They take them home to read before hiding them again once they are finished with the book. For more information search 'Hide A Book Scotland'.
We haven't found any books on our walks, but did find books in the Nursery garden and Adventure Playground.
On Friday we went out in our groups to hide our books. If you find any books you can take a photo and post on the Hide A Book Orkney Facebook page.

Changing Seasons
We've been up to The Secret Garden. The children were very excited to find apple trees in the garden. There were lots of apples, some on the trees and on the ground. There was also lots of leaves falling off the trees. This has sparked an interest in the changing weather and Autumn.

Some of the children went on a leaf hut around the school
Look at the different colours and shapes of leaves that we found

Travel
Since we came back after the holidays children have been sharing news of their holidays, and what they got up to over the Summer. We have noticed a lot of role play around travel and transport. We have been on boats planes and all different types of vehicles. While getting ready for going on holidays there has been lots of discussions about what we need, and times.

All packed and ready to go on holiday
You can't go on holiday if you don't look the part
You can't go on an empty stomach

 'All Aboard'

A tuff spot to inspire discussions and sharing news

The Mud Kitchen
It doesn't have to be mud in the mud kitchen. This week the children have enjoyed experimenting with water and mixing colours. We are learning about colour and capacity.

Our Puddle Hunt
We got dressed in waterproofs and wellies for our walk on Thursday and went on a puddle hunt. As you can see we found lots of puddles, big and small.
