Settling into Nursery Life


Week two has seen us continue to explore the nursery and surrounding areas. We have made the most of the good weather and have gone for small walks in the school grounds. We have been to visit the stage area and played in the trees. Someone has been hiding key-group stickers amongst the trees and the children had to find their group pictures. Children had the opportunity to make their own stickers for other people to find.








Before we went to play in the trees we all gathered on the stage to listen to Mrs Macintosh who spoke about the things we need to remember to keep us safe when we are outside. The children shared their ideas of how we stay safe.

 We are becoming familiar with some of the routines we have in Nursery. Mrs Mackay our tooth- brushing lady comes everyday to help supervise and encourage children with brushing their teeth.    

 An important part of being a snack helper is using the drum to let everyone know snack is ready.
 We have visual timetables to help us know what we are going to be doing during the session. A typical day might be : check-in, play - both inside and outside, snack, tooth-brushing, tidy-up, group-time before lunch or home-time. Snack and tooth-brushing happens during play with children choosing when to go to both.

We will be starting going on small walks next week as part of our 'Daily Mile' which is a government initiative to encourage children to take part in physical activity each day. We find going for a walk helps to settle the children for their time in Nursery. When we are out on our walks we may 'Hide a Book' in the near future.

We have been really lucky to have lots of bonnie weather since Nursery closed. You have certainly been making the most of it and have been spending lots of time outside. Just like the indoors photos we can see so much learning going on. It might be 'just playing' to the children but they are learning so much from siblings and parents. Rain, Rain, come back another day

There's no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes. But here at Papdale we are prepared for all weathers! We had lots of fun going on puddle hunts after the rain The Secret Garden We are learning to keep safe in the garden - we talk about fire safety, what plants are safe to touch, and we are risk assessing our play as we climb. And we are always on the lookout for bugs and "mystery creatures".  Staying safe near the fire " You can't go past the line or you will get burnt" Snack in the Secret Garden Out and about Before we go on walks we talk about the rules which keep us safe. Out and about

      *Reminder- We close today Friday 11th October. Nursery opens again on Wednesday 30th October*   If your child attends on a Thursday they can dress up for Halloween on the 31st if they would like to. We hope you don't scare us too much!!   On the buses A small group of children went for a very exciting trip this week. They walked down to the Town Hall before catching the bus back to Nursery. They had to check timetables, wait for the bus, and everyone had to give the driver money before they could get their tickets. The bus went around the town before arriving at KGS, where the children got off.       The Secret Garden On our visit to the Secret Garden last week we spoke to the children about the fire-pit and what we had to do to stay safe if we light it.
